Level 3 Dance
Course Description

Students will explore a variety of dance disciplines such as:
• Modern and stylised jazz
• Urban and street dance
• Body percussion
• Musical theatre and Commercial dance
• Contemporary dance
• Production technologies
• Devising techniques
This is a heavily performance based course with a major focus on devising and interpretation. At Level 3 students enter this course with a solid performance foundation from prior training and completion of the Level 1 and 2 Dance course. Students will learn, use, develop and refine skills in composition. Through cooperative learning and active participation, students will up-skill in a range of dance styles and refine their practical technique. Year 13 students are expected to work as a dance company; creating work in a professional capacity.
The course is divided into three components:
• Dance performance - learning an array of rhythmical patterns and movement combinations
• Dance choreography - devising in order to communicate an intention
• Dance technique - mastery of physical technical skills
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Students must wear a complete change of active wear for practical sessions.
Recommended Prior Learning
Interest in the performing arts. Reasonable engagement at Level Two Dance, or at the discretion of the HOD.

This course is approved for University Entrance.
Total Credits Available: 18 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 4 credits.
