INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Year 11 Employment Ready.

The purpose of this course is to help prepare you in your journey from education to getting a job -and possibly more education. We are lifelong learners!!

The knowledge, skills and experience you gain in the Year 11 course will prepare you for the next year's Year 12 Employment Ready or possibly the Gateway Course. This course will help you understand what it means to be 'employment ready' which is what employers are looking for! You will gain these necessary knowledge and skills through some classroom work but also hands-on courses and hopefully, work experience to get a real insight into what it really means to be employed in the adult world of work.

The units of work you will cover during the year will explore a wide range of topics employers have identified as being important in the workplace. Doing this course will certainly help you think about and prepare for your future working life.

Units of work may include may include both theory and practical learning:

For example;
• how to protect health and safety in the workplace (includes a level 1 health and safety course)
• participating productively in group tasks (includes mini -project)
• describing community services and being involved in community services
• managing personal well-being and practical activities
• producing a curriculum vitae (CV)
writing formal personal correspondence/filling in forms

You will be shown what is needed to be an employable person. If you can demonstrate these qualities...KEEN AND RELIABLE...you will be eligible to be directly involved in workplace experiences later in the year. (when 16 years old)
