Year 9 Subject Information
Year 9 students will have three spells per week from each of the eight Essential Learning Areas.
English, Maths, Physical Education, Science, and Social Sciences will be taught in form class groups, as is the case now. The Arts, Learning Languages (including Tikanga Māori) and Technology will be taught in elective groups. This allows for subject choices within these Learning Areas.
The elective subjects will be structured as follows:
- students will choose one full year and one half year elective from each of Technology and The Arts (That is, two electives for The Arts and two electives for Technology). They will study these electives for 2 spells per week.
- Students will choose one full year Language elective. They will study this elective for two spells per week for the full year. All students will study Tikanga Māori for one spell per week for the full year.
- In addition to this, there are some pathway selections available, to support students whose core literacy and numeracy needs additional work. (ESOL, Literacy, Numeracy)
