Year 11 Product Design Technology

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr J. Norris.

This is a full year course in which students design and develop innovative outcomes using mixed materials. Covering areas such as,

- Research and design
- Materials technology
- Basic workshop skills
- Computer Aided Design

The students will complete two manufacturing projects over the course of the year.

The first project requires the students to construct an outcome based on designs provided by the teacher. They can develop the aesthetics of this outcome but must follow the structural design to enable them to achieve the assessment conditions for this project. This project is to introduce them to the workshop machinery and equipment and prepare them for the following project.

The second project requires the students to design and create bespoke jewelry for a small Etsy type store. They will be required to investigate materials and processes after researching existing products to help inform their designs. Students will have the opportunity to use a range of different resistant materials and coloured resin to build their creations.

Note: This course leads to university entrance approved subjects.
