Course Description

Communication and intercultural competency skills are further developed through learning about: holidays and leisure, daily life including customs and culture in Japan, food, education, popular culture, student life and the role technology plays in it. Varied language activities foster the development of the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. A strong focus is on developing communication skills.
Students are encouraged to take two NCEA internal assessments in two NCEA external assessments. However, you are able to take up to three internals if you would like to gain more credits.
Their are several opportunities to interact with native speakers from Suginami High School, Tokyo, our sister school in Japan, as part of our exchange programme to and from Japan.
Students studying Year 12/13 Japanese are also eligible to apply for a long term exchange to Suginami High School.
