Course Description

Communication and intercultural competency skills are further developed through learning about: daily life and customs and culture in Japan, food, education, popular culture, as well as Japanese popular sports and pastimes. Varied language activities foster the development of the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. A strong focus is on developing communication skills.
Students are encouraged to take two NCEA internal assessments in two NCEA external assessments. However, you are able to take up to three internals if you would like to gain more credits.
Students can interact with students from Suginami High School, our sister school in Japan, when they visit in March 2020. You will also have the opportunity to visit Japan in September 2021, on the next school trip.
Students studying Year 12/13 Japanese are also eligible to apply for a long term exchange to Suginami High School, Japan, starting in May 2020.
