Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs S. Langley.

Communication and intercultural competency skills are further developed through learning about:  holidays and leisure, daily life including customs and culture in Japan, food, education, popular culture, student life and the role technology plays in it. Varied language activities foster the development of the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. A strong focus is on developing communication skills.

Students are encouraged to take two NCEA internal assessments in two NCEA external assessments. However, they are able to discuss which standards they would like to attempt with their teacher.

Students have the opportunity to opportunity to interact with native speakers from our two sister schools, Suginami High School, in Tokyo and Mino High School in Osaka, as part of our biannual exchange programme to and from Japan. We are planning to take a trip to Japan in September 2024, for 2 weeks. Priority for this trip will be given to students who are in Year 12 and Year 13, and studying Japanese. Year 11 students may also be eligible to participate in this trip.
