Year 9 Japanese
Teacher in Charge: Mrs S. Langley
Students will experience the joy and challenge of learning to communicate in a new fascinating language. Emphasis is placed on how to communicate in everyday natural Japanese and develop an understanding of the Japanese culture and cultural diversity in general. This is an interactive course, with the latest technology in language teaching, video clips and games.
By the end of the course, students will be able to communicate about themselves, family and friends, likes, their town, sports and hobbies, food, school and other aspects of their daily life. They will also learn useful phrases and expressions to help communicate naturally in Japanese. They will participate in a variety of cultural experiences to develop their intercultural competency skills. Students will also learn to read and write the Hiragana alphabet as well as some Kanji characters.
Students have the opportunity to interact with Japanese students from our sister-school, Suginami High School, when they visit in March every two years. In the senior school, they will also be able to travel to Japan on our bi-annual school trip.
This course runs for Four Hours per week for Two Terms.
