Course Description

Students develop intercultural understanding and communication skills while studying a variety of topics. These include: Shopping, Family Life, School Life, Travel, Sports, Describing People, Festivals, Food, and popular culture. They increase their communication skills and understanding while participating in a variety of interactive activities and games. They also learn more about their own identity and language. Students continue to develop their knowledge of the Japanese writing system and learn to read and write Katakana as well as up to 30 Kanji characters. Students are encouraged to use spoken Japanese as much as possible.
Participation in the NZ Schools Japanese Trivia Quiz during Term 2. This is a fun evening where you compete against other schools throughout NZ on topics related to Japanese culture.
Students have the opportunity to interact with students from our sister-school, Suginami High School, when they come in March 2020.
There is also an opportunity to travel to Japan in the future on the 2021 Japan school trip.
